Juan Ferrer (he/they) is a Brooklyn-based, Chilean designer, curator, and artist. His interdisciplinary practice navigates the limits of contemporary art and science engagement. With a specific interest in the influence of museums and digitality on engaging diverse audiences with the social-ecological crisis. He is also an amateur mycologist.
His research-driven, interdisciplinary practice materializes into developing multimedia artwork, curating exhibitions, and building interspecies connections. In 2016 he co-founded, and since then has been directing and curating the pioneering Museo del Hongo, or Museum of Fungi; a pop-up museum that integrates art, mycology, and technology, in which his thrill for science and passion for art converge. Through his curatorial practice, he questions disciplinary boundaries by proposing intersectional narratives in science engagement within a 'museum' space.
His work has been showcased at Telluride Mushroom Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Ars Electronica Festival, Berlin Science Week, Santiago Media Arts Biennial, and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, among other scientific and artistic events. Currently, he is completing his Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies at New York University's XE: Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement program.
