Juan Ferrer (he/they) is a Brooklyn-based Chilean designer, curator, artist, and amateur mycologist. His interdisciplinary practice explores the intersections of contemporary art, science engagement, digital culture, and the social-ecological crisis, with a particular interest in how museums and experimental platforms can create new forms of public encounter.
His research-driven practice materializes through multimedia artworks, exhibitions, and interspecies collaborations. In 2016, he co-founded Museo del Hongo, or Museum of Fungi, a pioneering pop-up museum that brings together art, mycology, and technology. As its director and curator, Ferrer questions disciplinary boundaries by proposing intersectional approaches to science engagement within and beyond the traditional museum space.
His work has been showcased at Tabakalera, Hek Basel, the Telluride Mushroom Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Ars Electronica Festival, Berlin Science Week, the Santiago Media Arts Biennial, and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, among other scientific and artistic contexts. He holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from New York University’s XE: Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement program.
