Exhilio is a character who, once banished by Earth to an exoplanet, navigates through an inhospitable place, without a sun, looking for a way to live while time passes. Exhilio learns to survive by merging himself with the cosmos; his body transforming into rays of light coming out of his head. Thus, he gains access to a knowledge that would be incomprehensible to a humanity that caused his expulsion in the first place.
This video was a finalist in the 2023 Extrasolar Digital Art Competition, created by Fundación Antenna and the Giant Magellan Telescope to promote creativity and the intersection between art and astronomy in the country of Chile. The contest was an invitation to create a video or digital animation of 30 seconds maximum, showing how we imagine exoplanets: the planets that exist beyond our solar system. With direct references to Dawn (1989) by Odd Nerdrum and Starman (1972) by David Bowie, the video portrays an extraterrestrial self-obliberation to achieve eternity.
